ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 1

PROJECT 1

Models & Tattoos : Expressions through Design Elements and Principles. This project introduced the basic understanding of the design elements and principles and how to translate them into drawings and models. It encourages the individual to think in a critical manner and explore free forms and techniques. By exploring different elements and principles in design, it provides a better understanding on how to implement these within the design as well as how to see things in a much clearer perspective.

PROJECT 2

1:1 Tectonics: Design Principles, Anthropometric and Ergonomic Exploration. A group project that allowed students to play with and build a structure using bamboos as a main material and a given supporting material. With Bamboo and Jute Rope as a supporting material for our group, we chose leaning as a banal movement to make a structure for. By researching anthropometrics and ergonomics, we understood the angles and what draws people to lean on something. An equilateral triangle was chosen as the basic shape of the structure and a skin made from bamboos were wrapped around it giving a comfortable space to lean. The concept for the structure was for people to understand and have the confidence to lean by looking at the connection and the stability of the structure hence the reason why we opted for an open structure.

PROJECT 3

Interpretation & Representation : Principles, Tectonics and Sensory. This is a combination of the previous 2 projects by adding sensory to it.  With the understanding of design elements and principles and the bamboo structure, we are to design another structure based on our previous banal movement by taking an element or from the structure itself. I chose the rhythm of the bamboo structure and designed an organic concrete structure which provides darkness and a brutalist architectural style. The intention of the design is for someone to experience different light enhancing and evoking feelings which leads to solitary and contentment.
