BUILDING SERVICES

PROJECT 1

Following the worst global health crisis in a century, the number of students enrolling in Taylor's University's numerous programmes has increased dramatically. The University's management has decided to construct a high-rise building with basement parking, classrooms, and student housing, as well as a central air-conditioning system, active fire protection system, mechanical ventilation system, and mechanical transportation system, to accommodate the astronomically large number of students.

However, due to the University's other development plans, land for the new building is restricted. Furthermore, the administration requires the new building to look like the current academic buildings, thus just the most basic architectural design work is needed. The high-rise structure will be built adjacent to Block E, taking up a section of the open car park and having the same plinth area as Block E.

Therefore, we need to come up with a proposal of a creative and workable scheme of services systems to impress the University’s management.

PROJECT 2

the brief.

Individually, we were expected to demonstrate our understanding of building services by proposing and designing appropriate systems for our studio five design project, including the cold and hot water supply system, sewerage & sanitary system, drainage system  and the electricity supply system.
Thus, we were required to produce appropriate drawings and diagrams to describe the planning and installation of all the building services. Additionally, students may also include specific clauses from the Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) or other relevant Acts, Laws or guidelines which relate to the proposed systems into their presentation boards.
